Backyard Safari Outfitters Review

in product reviews

A couple weeks ago, we received a fun packaage from Team Mom and Back Yard Safari Outfitters. It came at the perfect time. My daughter had just broken her arm, and couldn’t do normal outdoor activities like running and swimming, but she and my other kids could investigate and explore with the Back Yard Safari gear. Here’s what I received and our thoughts on them.

Essential Cargo Vest:

FEATURES:

RUGGED POLY-TWILL FABRIC WITH REINFORCED DETAIL
4 CARGO POCKETS WITH VELCRO CLOSURES
1 TWO INCH DEEP ZIPPER POCKET WITH MESH-NET OUTER POCKET
6 D-RINGS
CUSTOM ZIPPER PULLS
CARGO SHOULDER EPAULETS WITH SNAP CLOSURES
ADJUSTABLE REAR STRAP
2 OVER-SIZED MESH-NET CARGO POCKETS IN REAR
PLUS CLEAR-VU FRONT POCKET CONTAINING ESSENTIAL FIELD POP-GUIDE
AGE: 5 & UP

Retails for $19.99

My kids thought this was cool at first.  They were especially excited about the Field Pop-Guide and the pretend compass.  However, over the past couple weeks, I’ve noticed it just sitting in our dress-up box while they play with the other equipment.  Unless your child is an avid dress-up player, I would probably skip this purchase and focus on the other items.

The Bug Wrangler’s Extreme Suction Bug Vacuum

FEATURES:

2 CATCH & RELEASE CAPTURE CORES WITH BUILT IN MAGNIFYING GLASS
PLUS: EXTRA NOSE CONE FOR THE REALLY BIG BUGS
AGE: 5 & Up

Retails for $19.99.

We actually already had one of these in our house that my oldest got about 5 years ago.  It’s great to now have two because the kids definitely enjoy the thought of sucking up bugs and now there isn’t as much fighting.  They also enjoy looking close up at the bus through the magnifying glass.  If your kids enjoy bugs at all, this is a great toy.

Land & Water Mega View Periscope:

FEATURES:

THREE NESTED SECTIONS EXTEND OVER 4 FEET
WIDE-VIEW FACE PLATE FOR BINOCULAR VIEWING
ERGONOMICALLY DESIGNED HAND GRIPS FOR STEADY, VERTICAL HOLDING POSITION
16 INCH WATER-TIGHT SUBMERSIBLE SECTION FOR UNDERWATER VIEWING
AGE: 5 & Up

Retails for $24.99.

This was by far, the overall favorite item of the 3 for my kids.  They described it as “magical.”  They had fun with it inside, spying on each other and looking at things higher then their normal view, as well as outside.  My only gripe is the fighting about who got to use it.
